Anarchy Minecraft 101: How to Survive Your First Night (and Your Friends)
An anarchy server is Minecraft with the safety off. No rules against griefing, no admins rolling back your base after someone blows it up. Everything you build can be found, looted and turned into a crater, and that’s exactly the fun of it. Here’s how to last longer than one night.
Quick answer
- Leave spawn as fast as you can. Far.
- Keep your valuables in an ender chest.
- Never share coordinates outside your crew.
- Dig for diamonds deep, around Y −58.
- Protect your Microsoft account with two-step verification. Seriously.
- Your first base will be blown up. That’s tradition.
What “anarchy” means
On anarchy servers there are usually no rules about gameplay: griefing, stealing and PvP are allowed, and nothing gets rolled back. Read the server’s page anyway. Some still have a few rules, and it tells you which game version to use.
Chat can get rough too. In Java Edition you can hide it in Options, Chat Settings: set Chat to Hidden or Commands Only.
Leave spawn
Spawn on an old anarchy server looks like the surface of the moon: craters, lava, traps and players waiting for new arrivals. Don’t build anything there. Pick a direction and go. The farther, the better: think thousands of blocks, not hundreds. In Java Edition, the F3 screen shows your coordinates.
Travel light at first. If you die on the way, you lose less.
Hide your loot
- Ender chest. Its contents belong only to you. Other players can’t see or take them, every ender chest in the world opens the same storage (even in other dimensions), and if the chest block is broken, your items stay safe.
- Backup stash. Bury a couple of chests with spare tools, food and blocks far away from your base. When the base goes boom, you’ll be glad you did.
- Coordinates are the keys to your house. Share them only in a private channel with your crew. Check screenshots before posting: the F3 screen shows your coordinates, and people do read them.
Diamonds
In current Java Edition, diamond ore generates from Y=16 down to Y=−63, and it gets more common the deeper you go. Deepslate diamond ore is most common at Y=−58 and −59.
Diamond ore that would touch air often doesn’t generate, so tunnels through solid stone are better than wandering open caves. Water and lava don’t have that effect, so check the walls of underground lakes and lava pools.
Bring a water bucket for lava, and don’t dig straight down. Ever.
TNT, the crew’s favorite toy
Lit TNT explodes after 4 seconds (80 game ticks). Enough time to run. Not enough time to argue about whose idea it was. One rule: never test it in your own storage room. You know why.
Keep your account safe (this part is not a joke)
Things in the game can be rebuilt. A stolen account is much harder to get back.
- Turn on two-step verification for the Microsoft account you play Minecraft with. It’s in the account’s security settings.
- Download mods only from sources you trust. In 2023, the fractureiser malware spread through mods uploaded from hacked CurseForge and dev.bukkit.org accounts. It stole browser data and logins for Discord, Microsoft and Minecraft. In 2025, researchers found fake Minecraft “scripts and macros” tools on GitHub that stole Minecraft and Discord tokens and browser passwords.
- Never give anyone your password, including “server admins” and “friends” who ask in private messages.
- “Free” is a red flag: free Minecoins, free accounts, free cheat clients, free codes.
- Keep personal info out of chat: real name, school, city, photos. That’s exactly what trolls collect.
Better with friends
Anarchy is much more fun as a crew:
- Use a private channel for coordinates and plans.
- Agree on a backup meeting point in case the base gets found.
- Split the jobs: someone mines, someone builds, someone keeps watch, and someone “accidentally” lights the TNT.
- When the base gets blown up, take a screenshot of the crater. That’s history now.
FAQ
Is anarchy Minecraft safe?
In the game, nothing is safe. That’s the point. In real life it’s as safe as you make it: protect your account, don’t download random mods or “free clients”, and keep personal information to yourself. For parents: anarchy servers usually don’t moderate chat, so they aren’t a good fit for younger kids.
Someone found my base. What now?
Assume they’ll come back. Your ender chest is safe anyway. Grab what you can, head to the backup stash and build somewhere new, much farther away. Don’t return to the same coordinates.
Can I get my items back after a raid?
On a real anarchy server, no. There are no rollbacks. That’s what ender chests and backup stashes are for.
